Northern Tool & Equipment Continues Expansion in Dallas / Fort Worth, Texas

New Location in Lewisville, Texas Marks Fourth Storefront in the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex For Leading Equipment Retailer

Northern Tool & Equipment Company continues its expansion in the Dallas Fort Worth Texas area with a new retail store in Lewisville, Texas, built by general contractor Bob Moore Construction Company.

ARLINGTON, TEXAS - September 23, 2005 - Northern Tool & Equipment continues its expansion in the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex with a new retail store location in Lewisville, Texas.

With more than 12,000 products in its inventory, Northern Tool & Equipment is billed as "the ultimate source of tools and equipment" for the do-it-yourself and contractor markets. For more than 20 years the company has marketed a wide range of tools, power equipment and accessories to individuals and businesses. Headquartered in Burnsville, Minnesota, this company has more than 50 retail stores in ten U.S. states. The new Lewisville store is the fourth Northern Tool property in the Dallas / Fort Worth, Texas area.

Bob Moore Construction was chosen to build the equipment retailer's Lewisville store following their successful completion of Northern Tool's property in Grand Prairie in 2004. (For more information about the first Northern Tool & Equipment project by Bob Moore Construction company view the Northern Tool & Equipment - Grand Prairie Texas press release.) The architect for the Lewisville store was ADW Architects in Charlotte, North Carolina and the developer was Centdev Properties in Cornelius, North Carolina.

"I was involved in this project from start to finish," said Chris Brockman, Assistant Construction Manager for Northern Tool & Equipment. "In the planning phases our real estate / facilities team worked closely on performing due diligence, site selection and layout scenarios once the property had been selected. As the project progressed I worked closely with Robin Broocks of Centdev Properties and the rest of the construction team, all the way through to completion."

The Northern Tool and Equipment retail store in Lewisville Texas is one of the first prototype stores built to feature the company's new design, branding and image. The building was constructed by design build contractor Bob Moore Construction Company.

The new 25,454 SF retail store building features a large sales area with shelving for thousands of products. The building also houses several administrative offices, a loading dock, a product assembly area and an employee break room. A fenced, outdoor equipment yard displays larger pieces of equipment. Shoppers who have visited other Northern Tool & Equipment stores will notice a different look to the Lewisville location. Gone is the red and blue color scheme - this store's exterior is finished in a beige, dark brown and burgundy color palette with a flat canopy and a large tower structure bearing the company's new logo at the entrance.

"This building is one of the first prototype stores we've built to represent the new design, branding and image our stores will include down the road," said Brockman. "We're changing the look of our retail properties, moving to what we think better symbolizes who we are and what we do. The new entry tower structure with the new Northern Tool logo is a major element on the building, something people can see as they drive by and easily recognize it as Northern Tool & Equipment. It turned out really well and we are extremely proud of our new building design."

The construction team employed a variety of creative solutions during the project to meet budget, schedule and local building code requirements. "Our team took a very innovative approach to solving the various challenges we faced in the design and planning phases," said Curt Hellen, Senior Project Manager for Bob Moore Construction. "This required close coordination with our site superintendent, Robin Broocks, Chris Brockman and the rest of the team. The team worked very well together - the steps we took were very effective, and were successful at holding down the overall cost of the project."

The new 25,454 SF retail store building features a large open area with shelving for thousands of products. It was built using tilt-up concrete construction with a new technique for attaching a masonry facade to the tilt-up concrete panels as the tiltwall panels are poured and cast.

One aspect of the building which required creative solutions was the building's exterior façade. The Lewisville store was built using tilt-up concrete construction; however, local building codes required 100% masonry façade so the common method of simply painting the tiltwall panels was not allowed. Instead of building a costly and time-consuming CMU exterior façade, Bob Moore Construction employed a new technology called Brick Snap to create a brick finish on the tiltwall panels as they were poured. This innovation satisfied the city's requirements while maintaining the cost and speed advantages that tilt-up construction provides.

"The building turned out really well," said Brockman. "Curt Hellen was very good about working together and keeping things going thru to conclusion. If we encountered any bumps Curt was very accommodating in giving us multiple options for a solution so we knew what choices were out there. He was always accessible if we needed immediate action and he produced results. It was very good working with Bob Moore Construction and we look forward to a prosperous relationship."
