March 24, 2005 - ARLINGTON, TEXAS -- Bob Moore Construction was pleased to sponsor the Design/Build Category of the 2005 Associated Schools of Construction (ASC)/QUOIN Region V Student Constuction Competion.

The competition, which took place in February at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas, featured more than 100 students from ten universities in the categories of Design/Build, Heavy/Civil and Commercial Building.

The Design/Build Category pitted Texas A&M, Oklahoma State University, the University of Oklahoma and Texas Tech in head-to-head competition, where the students were tasked to prepare and present bids on real-world scenarios. A panel of representatives from the Metroplex real estate development and construction industry judged the students presentations. The students competed for bragging rights, a trophy and a donation to their college. The winner of each category moves on to the national competition in Las Vegas, Nevada, where they compete against teams from colleges all across the country.

Texas A&M earned top honors in the Design / Build Competition. Oklahoma State University placed second and the University of Oklahoma came in third. Meloni McDaniel from the University of Oklahoma earned special recognition as the top presenter in the Design / Build Category.

Bob Moore Construction sponsored the Design / Build Competition, providing the scenario, coordinating the judges and running the competition. 2005 marked the second consecutive year for the company to sponsor this event.

"This experience offers benefits to the students on so many levels," said Larry Knox, Vice President of Preconstruction for Bob Moore Construction and presenter of the Design / Build Competition awards. "The students put their education to use in a real world scenario and really get a sense of what it's like to bid and present a project. They receive valuable feedback from industry experts on their work. They meet with members of the Dallas / Fort Worth construction community where they may choose to relocate after graduation, so there's networking potential as well.

"Bob Moore Construction is very pleased to support QUOIN and ASC in their efforts to provide educational experiences to students in our region's colleges," Knox added. "The students there will be working for us and with us in the coming years. We're happy to help them to develop into the kinds of professionals we want representing our industry in the years to come."
