This exciting 608,521 SF distribution center provides enough space to support the company’s growth in the Southwest portion of the United States for many years to come.
The building was constructed with tilt-up construction. The exterior walls are finished with two-tone gray and white paint with decorative reveals, and the front entrance features a large metal panel awning.
Inside, the 595,569 SF distribution space features 59 loading docks with a 32’ clear height and a white paint finish on the interior walls. The majority of the distribution space is filled with extensive floor-to-ceiling racking and the latest designs in conveyor automation. A portion of the floor includes a thickened slab with high specifications for flatness to support these automated systems. To the rear of the space, a large air compressor system provides pneumatic power throughout the facility.
The space is separated into two large zones with a large wall that serves as a containment barrier for fires.
One zone includes racking, with separate rooms for the storage of more flammable substances, drums, aerosol products and temperature controlled materials. A truck scale at this part of the facility weighs trailers once they are loaded.
The second zone provides more racking along with a paint re-pour room, tint room, a 3,000 SF secured storage mezzanine, and forklift maintenance and recharging areas.
11,000 SF of the building’s space is dedicated to an office area. This space includes offices, dispatch window, employee breakroom space, and bathrooms with showers for the truck drivers.
The new distribution center features extensive safety and control systems. The fire barrier wall with large doors separate the two zones; an automated system stands ready to close the doors in the event of a fire. Fire controls in the facility include ESFR and in-rack sprinkler systems and a foam tank system was built into the aerosol and drum storage areas for additional safety. Outside the building, a storage tank with diesel pump maintains a reserve of water to ensure a sustained supply to fire sprinklers in the event of an emergency.
To address potential environmental concerns, primary and secondary containment systems were integrated into the design of the floors and building shell. Additionally, the paved area around the facility is designed to guide run-off into a piping system that can be cut off from the city’s pipes in the event of a spill, and contain any overage without leaving the property.
The project also included a separate 11,239 SF maintenance building that houses two work bays for semi-trucks and four drive-through bays for trailers.
